Description

Located on the south fork of the mighty Shenandoah River, Shenandoah River State Park boasts 5.2 miles of beautiful river frontage. Covering a total of 1,604 acres of territory, the park offers impressive natural scenery, heaps of opportunities for outdoor recreation, and a campground that welcomes pets.

For many visitors to the park, fishing and boating are right at the top of the "to-do" list. A car-top boat launch makes the park a popular destination for anglers and canoeists, while others prefer the peace and tranquility of exploring the countryside near the water's edge.

If you do want to set out on foot to take a closer look at what Shenandoah River State Park has to offer, you'll be pleased to know that a 24-mile trail network is provided. Better yet, 14 miles of those trails are multi-use, allowing you to explore the park at your own pace.

While you're out and about taking a look around, you'll be able to enjoy scenic views of Massanutten Mountain to the west and Shenandoah National Park to the east. The park also features a large riverside picnic area and picnic shelters, perfect for when you need to sit down for a bite to eat.

The Shenandoah River State Park campground features pet-friendly cabins as well as sites for tents and RVs. Three yurts are also available but do not allow pets.

Of course, if you're camping in the park with your canine companion you'll need to familiarise yourself with all relevant rules and regulations. For example, pets are permitted in enclosed areas or on a leash no longer than six feet. Your dog must also be supervised at all times and you must clean up after your pet.

Shenandoag River State Park combines remarkable natural beauty with myriad opportunities for outdoor recreation and relaxation. Check it out the next time you're going camping with your dog.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
