Description

Nestled along the southern shores of its namesake lake, Sheridan Lake South Shore Campground is a picturesque and family-friendly campground in Rapid City, South Dakota. It's part of the Black Hills National Forest and has 129 campsites to choose from, including spots designated for RVs, trailers, and tents. The campsites are positioned on five loops, many of which have lake views. Twelve campsites are accessible for those with disabilities. Sheridan Lake welcomes furry four-legged campers as long as they're on a leash and their owners pay a small fee!

Your spot at Sheridan Lake will come with a picnic table and a campfire ring, and drinking water is available on-site. There are no hookups available for RVs, but you're welcome to run your generator between 6 AM and 10 PM.

Recreational activities abound near the campground, and Sheridan Lake Campground is equipped with a boat ramp, boat rentals, and a marina to help you make the most of them. Sheridan Lake is used for boating, swimming, and fishing for trout, pike, and perch. Just below the lake sits Spring Creek, which is a great fly-fishing spot. During the winter, ice fishing is common on Sheridan Lake. In addition to your daily camping fee, there's a $6 daily parking fee for this campground, or you can buy an annual pass for $34.

Campers will spot all sorts of wildlife around the campground, including sheep, elk, deer, bald eagles, hawks, falcons, and osprey. Hikers can choose from several paths in the area to hike with their leashed pets, and there's something for every skill level. Choose the 12.4-mile Flume Trail for a moderate hike, or use the Dakota Point Trailhead to access part of the 105-mile Centennial Trail. For other day trip options, visit Jewel Cave, the second-longest cave in the world, or head to the Mount Rushmore National Monument.

You can reserve your spot at Sheridan Lake South Shores Campground as soon as four days before your trip, or up to six months in advance. This pawesome campground fills up quickly during summer weekends, so booking in advance is advised!
