South Sandusky Campground is a large public campground situated at the Sandusky Cove by the 20,633-acre Rend Lake in Sesser, Illinois. The campground is not only popular among those interested in fishing or boating, but it is also a prime spot for wilderness adventures or relaxing weekend getaways from the city. Plus, since there are a lot of fun activities around that kids can participate in, the campground is both family and dog-friendly, which means your loved ones won’t have to sit this one out!
The South Sandusky Campground accommodates both tent and RV camping; it is also ADA accessible. It consists of over 100 sites, all of which are well-spaced out and either partially or fully shaded. Electric hookups are available at all the RV sites. Patrons will find fire rings and picnic tables at their sites, perfect for outdoor breakfasts or late night hot dogs over the fire. The sites start at $14 per night but vary depending on campsite type and hookups.Â
The campground features restrooms with flushing toilets and hot showers, as well as drinking water and a dump station. Even though the campground sits in a forested area filled with wildlife it offers all the essentials needed for a comfortable stay, including paved roads and lantern posts that help patrons find their way in the evenings. Make sure to store food properly while visiting as raccoons, possums, and foxes are often encountered in the area, along with deer and waterfowl. In addition to being a great location for bird watching and wildlife viewing, the campground offers two playgrounds for kids to enjoy and has a volleyball court on-site.Â
Dogs are welcome at the South Sandusky Campground but need to remain supervised at all times during their stay. Please pack plenty of doggie waste bags and pick up after your furry friend regardless of whether you are at the campground, on the hiking trails or surrounding open fields. Whether you are coming to fish and boat, hike in the woods or stargaze your nights away, you will have a great time with your canine companion at the South Sandusky Campground.Â
