Spillway (AZ)

Spillway is a fun-filled dog-friendly campground that’s located on Woods Canyon Lake in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. The campground’s 26 sites are all surrounded by oak, Ponderosa pine, and Douglas fir trees, keeping the sites shady and cool. The daily fee at this great campground is $25.

If you and your dog enjoy going on hikes together, Spillway is a great choice for you. If you just want to go on a short trek, there’s a furrific nature trail in the northern part of the campground that goes around Woods Canyon Lake. If you’d like to go on a longer hike, Rim Lake Vista Trail is just about a mile down the road from Spillway. This 3.5-mile trail takes you along Mogollon Rim, and it offers stunning views of the nearby canyons and mountains. As you’re walking along these trails, you may get to see some of Spillway’s native wildlife, including elk, deer, and a wide variety of birds.

Spillway is also a good choice for water sports enthusiasts. If you’re a fisherman, you can try your luck catching freshwater trout in Woods Canyon Lake. You can also go boating on the lake — boat rentals are available at the Woods Canyon Store, which is just down the road from Spillway.

At the end of the day, you and your pup can relax and enjoy your campsite’s amenities. Each campsite comes with its own picnic table and a charcoal grill that’s perfect for making burgers, hot dogs, or steaks for you and your pup. The campsites also come with campfire rings where you can build a roaring fire.

Spillway is a pawsitively amazing campground that has tons to offer hikers, boaters, and fishermen. Remember to bring some doggy bags with you so you can clean up after your dog during your trip, and enjoy camping here!
