If you’re looking for a Fido-friendly place to stay in Idaho’s stunning Hitt Mountains, you’d be barking mad not to check out Spring Creek Campground! That’s if you and your buddy are willing to "ruff" it a bit, of course. Facilities at Spring Creek are on par with other US Forest Service campgrounds in the area -- that is to say, rather primitive. You certainly won’t find any showers, electricity, or RV hookups here.
But with a location like this, who can complain? Perched on the banks of the gently burbling Spring Creek, the sites are surrounded by majestic pines which provide plenty of shade. You’ll also be serenaded to sleep by a chorus of Mormon crickets. There's no entrance fee to the forest, and sites start at $10 per night.
Spring Creek has been designated a medium-heavy usage campground, so it pays to book well in advance if you’re planning to visit during the peak season. After September 27th, all sites are set aside for walk-ins, so get there early, particularly if you’re looking to snag an accessible site. Group camping is also available, making this a furrific spot for a family reunion or other group getaway.
You and your pooch certainly won’t be bored during your stay! The surrounding area is something of a haven for hound-dog hikers. Four-pawed fitness freaks might enjoy walking a stretch of the Sturgill Peak Trail, which has inclines ranging from the steep to the truly punishing. That being said, the views from the top have to be seen to be believed! If you’re out of breath just thinking about it, don’t worry -- there’s also a scenic drive to the lookout. Keen anglers might be a little disappointed to know that Silver Creek offers few fishing opportunities, but if you’re willing to go a little fur-ther afield, nearby Mann Lake is a great place to cast a line.
WiFi isn’t available at Spring Creek, and there's no cellular coverage, so this isn't a good camping choice for those who need to stay in constant contact. Remember to bring waste bags for your doggo, and you're all set for a pawesome adventure at Spring Creek Campground!
