If you want to go camping with your pup by a beautiful lake, Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area is perfect for you! This furrific campground offers 115 shady campsites that all have electrical and water hookups. Dogs are welcome to join you in this fun-filled campground on-leash, and the daily fee for the campground is $10 to $20 depending on the site you choose.

While you’re at Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area, you’ll find lots of great things to do with your dog. If you and your pup enjoy hiking together, you can hop on one of the recreation area’s four hiking trails. If you’d like to go on a long walk with your dog, try the 2.5-mile Oak Ridge Loop Trail. This trail begins in the campground, and it takes you through the forest and along the recreation area’s 585-acre lake. If you’re looking for a shorter walk, check out the 0.5-mile Marlow Pond Trail, the 0.25-mile Phillips Creek Trail, or the 0.25-mile Henneman Trail, which goes through a historic early settlement cemetery.

Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area also has plenty to offer water lovers. If you’re bringing a boat, the campground has a boat ramp you can use to access the lake. You can also try your luck fishing from the lakeshore — the lake is regularly stocked with largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegills, trout, and more.

At the end of the day, you and your dog can relax at your campsite and enjoy the campground’s many amenities. If you’d like to cook dinner for you and your dog, there are grills throughout the campground. If you’d like to curl up next to a roaring fire, there are also campfire rings throughout the campground, and you can buy firewood at the campground’s store.
