Stillwater is a campground located in lovely Granby, Colorado. It’s located on the northwest edge of Lake Granby itself and is primarily busy during the summer months. There are several camping sites outside the gate that stay open year-round, however. Dogs are allowed in the campground, so, your pooch can come along for this adventure!
Nestled against Lake Granby, Stillwater is located on a slight hill and is just a few minutes walk from the beach. There are no trees due to pine kill. However, it is hoped that new trees that were planted several years ago will change the treeless appearance soon. The campground is laid out on a loop and has bathrooms, showers, and drinking water available. There is oversized parking available for boats and it boasts 129 camping sites. Of those sites, only 21 have electric hookups available. You can see the campground from highway 34, and unfortunately, you can hear the road noise from the campground, as well. There is an impressive list of things to do such as horseback riding, visiting the amphitheater, fishing, biking, boating, and much, much more.
Stillwater is dog-friendly, but your pooch needs to remain leashed on a hand-held leash, and please also bring poop bags to clean up after your dog. For the best time possible for you and Fido, also bring all of their necessities such as food, bedding, toys, and anything else they might need while camping.
While this is a great place to camp, be aware of bears and keep your campsite clean. Also be mindful of the fire restrictions and follow them. Because of pine beetle damage to the trees, the area is extremely sparse and can be flammable. Also, wear plenty of sunscreen and drink lots of water. You’re at over 8,000 feet, after all, and can burn and dehydrate more easily. Don’t forget to keep your pooch hydrated as well!
The next time you’re in Granby Colorado, check out Stillwater! You and your pooch are bound to have a great time!
