Stove Prairie is one of many campgrounds within the Poudre Canyon, providing visitors with a wide range of outdoor activities to partake in while staying in the area. The river is popular amongst rafters (several outfits offer guided trips), kayaker, and fishers, to name a few. Anglers can be seen casting for brown, cutthroat, and rainbow trout.Â
In addition to the activities in and along the Poudre River, Stove Prairie campers will have ample opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. All trails are open to hikers and leashed dogs, with some of the most popular nearby areas including Young Gulch Trail, Grey Rock, and Gateway Park.Â
Given its proximity to Fort Collins, Stove Prairie is a very popular campground and reservations are encouraged between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Each site can accommodate up to eight campers and tents, and all tents must be set up on the tent pad to prevent any further damage to the surrounding environment. All campsites are equipped with a fire grate, picnic table, and tent pad, and most sites have shade (especially 3, 4, and 6). If you are bringing Fido along for the trip, try and get one of these sites, as you won't have to worry about the often-intense Colorado sun! Keep in mind that this is both bear and mountain lion country, so come prepared, keep your dog in your campsite on a leash, and be smart about your choices!
