Description

West Eagle Campground is a pawesome place for a Fido-friendly group getaway! Situated in the Eagle Lake Recreation Area in northern California’s Lassen National Forest, West Eagle has a few more mod-cons than many US Forest Service campgrounds in the area. You won’t find any showers or water hookups, but the campground does have electricity and flush toilets.

The location isn’t bad, either! West Eagle is perched on the side of Eagle Lake. Many of the sites have waterside views, and the area is well shaded by majestic pines. West Eagle is a pretty paw-pular place during the summer months, so it’s best to make your reservation early. There’s no entrance fee to the recreation area, and group sites are $125. One site can accommodate 100 campers and their canines, while the other fits 75.

You and your pooch are sure to sniff out something to do in Eagle Lake Recreation Area! If casting a line is your idea of a good time, you’re in luck. The lake is home to a special species of fish called the Eagle Lake Rainbow Trout, known especially for its size, and you can cook your catch on one of the grills provided with each site.

Non-furry friends and family will be glad to know that both sites have beach access, and Gallatin Beach and Swimming Area is just a stone’s throw away, but unfortunately, your pupper will need to remain away from the swimming areas and on dry land at all times. The recreation area doesn’t offer any true challenges for seasoned hound-dog hikers, but the five-mile-long paved and accessible trail around the lake is still well worth the walk. And if all you guys want to do is sit a spell and catch up, there are plenty of picnic tables at the campground.

Wifi isn’t available at West Eagle, and cellular coverage varies from network to network. You might want to check with your provider before you leave if you need to stay in constant contact. Fires are permitted, but regulations can change with the weather. You’ll also find drinking water available on-site. Remember to bring waste bags for your doggo, and have a furrific vacation!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
