West Overlook Campground

West Overlook Campground is a large campground located within the Dam Complex on the west side of the Coralville Lake Dam in Iowa City, Iowa. The pet-friendly campground sits by a lake and provides an ideal base for fishing, swimming, boating and water skiing. 

The campground consists of 89 paved campsites, all of which have standard electric hookups available. There are mature hardwoods growing throughout the area which cast a good amount of shade for patrons to enjoy at each site. The $20 per night campsites feature fire rings and large picnic tables, there is also a fishing station on-site. Clean, modern restrooms are available, too, and come equipped with flush toilets and hot showers. 

In addition to the above, there are horseshoes and a playground for kids to play around in. For fishing enthusiasts, a boat ramp is conveniently located within the camp's grounds and enables easy access to Coralville Lake, which is filled with bass, walleye, crappie, and catfish. The campground’s day use area features a beach, picnic areas, and a picnic shelter. Just outside of it, there are drinking fountains and a dump station which helps keep the grounds clean. In addition to being a prime location for water activities, the campground is also near several hiking trails that vary in length and difficulty, so you and your pooch can get your daily walk in no matter your fitness level.

Note that you'll need to register at the campground's fee booth before setting up camp. Please make sure to store food properly during your stay to avoid attracting bears that can be encountered in the area, along with whitetail deer, waterfowl, and pheasants. This is also one of the reasons the campground requires campers to supervise their pets at all times. Please pack plenty of dog waste bags and clean up after your pooch if you visit. Check your dog for ticks as well as the campground is located in a grassy and wooded area.
