Winding River Resort

Winding River Resort is located in beautiful Grand Lake Colorado. Camping and cabins in this area are especially popular in the summer with the busiest times being around the major summer holidays. They also offer several ways to stay in the resort, and your pup is allowed in parts of the resort so long as they are leashed.

The resort boasts beautiful views, grassy areas, and something for everyone. However, there is not very much shade because of a pine beetle infestation killing many of the trees. So, keep this in mind when packing. The resort is located next to so many wonderful landmarks and parks, you’ll never run out of things to do. It’s located near three lakes, Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain Reservoir, and Lake Granby. It’s also located in the Arapaho National Forest and is just a stone’s throw from Rocky Mountain National Park. You can also enjoy shopping and activities in the charming mountain town of Grand Lake.

There are several ways to stay at this resort including RV camping, camper cabins, a lodge, and even covered wagon camping! Each offers its own various amenities. However, generally, there are restrooms, showers, and even laundry available. You cannot always have campfires in this area, because of the terrain’s flammability in the summer. During the summer months, you can enjoy water sports, horseback riding, and more. Parts of the resort are just open during the summer. However, you can also enjoy fun activities such as snowmobiling in the winter.

As mentioned, Fido is welcomed in parts of the resort. Your dog can be in the Winding River Resort Village. However, they are not allowed in the lodge or cabins. So, plan accordingly. Your pooch must also be leashed at all time and cleaned up after. Be prepared for all of your dog’s needs to have the best time possible!

Please also keep in mind that you’re at over 8,000 feet, so it is much easier to get sunburned and dehydrated. Bring plenty of sunscreen and drink lots of water. Don’t forget to make sure your pooch is getting plenty of water, as well!
