Get out on the beautiful waters of the Yampa River when you stay at Yampa River State Park. This beautiful wilderness is waiting for you and your canine compadre to come and explore! You'll find the park in the Yampa Valley, and it continues on almost all the way to the Utah border. A daily pass to this state park will set you back $7.
Of the 49 campsites found in the park, most offer electric hookups and 5 are large group sites. Each site has a campfire ring -- complete with a grill for cooking -- and a picnic table with a permanent shade/rain structure. There is also a dump station for RVs, and drinking water is available on-site. The visitors center offers a small gift shop where you can pick up books and other goodies to take with you, and you'll even find vending machines in the park to fill your snack cravings. Four primitive sites can also be booked, though these are more remote and lack amenities.
If you're staying at Yampa, you have no reason to be bored as the activities here are endless! The river itself is an awesome place for fishing, kayaking, rafting, canoeing, and swimming. Onshore, you can join a game of volleyball or take a turn on one of the many nature trails (bring your pooch along; we know they'll thank you). Kids can also burn off steam on the playground located at the camp area. Â
Four-legged campers are more than welcome in this state park as long as they are kept on a standard leash of 6 feet. The park also makes a note of asking patrons to stoop and scoop after their fur buddies, so bring along those poop bags and be a good pup parent! It's also a good idea to bring along all of the things your mutt needs to be comfy, and make sure they are always attended to during your visit.
This giant park in Colorado is worth checking out, so book your next camping trip here if you love adventures with your woofer by your side!
