The Ackerman Park Dog Run is a dog park in Charleston, South Carolina. This dog park is just a small section of the Ackerman Park which has been fenced to make a dog run. There are some parking spaces on the roadsides in the local neighborhood. This dog park in Charleston is like a shady woodland clearing. Lots of trees around the border and space in the middle for pups to run off all their energy.
There was probably once a complete covering of grass, but it is now only left around the perimeters. The central parts of the park have been worn away to dirt from the pad of heavy paws. It is not all the fault of the big dogs though as the small dogs use the same section. The patter of tiny paws can damage grass too. Do the dogs notice? No, they don't. They're happy having off-leash time.
Most of the time different sizes sharing the same enclosure is fine and doesn't cause any problems, but it's wise for mini mutt owners to keep a careful eye on them. The rules for this dog park are that all handlers taking a pup into the off-leash area must be over eighteen. Said adult can only be accompanied by one other child and that child needs to be over twelve. While owners can only take one youngster into the off-leash area, they are allowed to take two dogs.
Dogs or owners who show aggression or act in an anti-social way, are better off staying at home. Owners should always keep their pups leash in their hand so that if any misbehavior does occur, they are ready to take immediate action. Dogs need to have both their tags on while in the Ackerman Park Dog Run. For vaccinations and for their license. They really should not leave home without either.
