When your dog is giving you the sad eyes, its time for a trip to the dog park! And for pups living in Charleston, off leash freedom may be just steps away at Ackerman Park!
Featuring soccer fields and a popular skate park, this community green space is also home to the Ackerman Dog Park where pups can let loose and meet up with canine pals. With full fencing and a double-gated entry, you can feel safe letting your dog ditch the leash here. This pupperdise is a one size fits all park, so be sure your tiny pup feels safe running with the big dogs. There's plenty of room to roam here, and dogs can carve out a bit of space for themselves if they need a break from furiends.
With lots of trees for shade, this pup play space is pawfect on warmer days, and there's even a water fountain with spouts at human and dog levels to keep everyone hydrated. Near the entrance is a loop for parking, making a visit a breeze! Though there is some grass, most of the terrain is dirt, and while easy on the paws, it can get muddy in wet conditions. If heading for some off leash romping after a rain, be sure to bring a towel for a quick wipe off before heading home.Â
While inside the dog park, your pup can run free, but do keep the leash in hand at all times. Dogs should be leashed when entering and exiting the dog park area, and anywhere outside of it, so if your pup gets their fill of socializing, clip the leash back on for a relaxing stroll through the rest of Ackerman Park. Though there aren't any full restrooms for the humans in the larger park, there is usually a port-a-potty on site.Â
Dogs should be fully vaccinated and licensed before visiting, and wearing appropriate tags on their collars. Don't furget the waste bags, and help keep the dog area clean by promptly picking up after your pooch. And if your dog happens to dig a hole in their antics, always fill it back in before you leave.
Work out that dog energy and get that tail wagging with a trip to Ackerman Dog Park today!
