Alta Lake State Park

Escape the cares of everyday life at this gorgeous state park. Located right on the shores of Alta Lake, it is surrounded by rocky mountains that were formed by glacial activity. During the summer, outdoor lovers flock to this site to get in touch with Mother Nature. Your pupster is going to love it!

Since the park sits right on the lake, watersports are very pupular. Those who have a boat can use one of the two launches to get their watercraft into the lake. To help keep noise at a minimum, water skiing and boating are only allowed between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Fishing season opens at the end of April. Bring your rod and reel and try your luck at hooking a trout or bluegill. If things go your way, you and your pooch can enjoy a delicious fish dinner!

When you’re through fishing, go for a hike with your canine buddy. There are some spur trails that weave around the lake. Alta Lake Trail begins by Wooded Group Camp. This trail may be short, but it packs a punch. Your pup will definitely get their leg workout in for the day! Don’t forget to bring plenty of water and clean-up bags.

Alta Lake State Park has 93 campsites available, and 32 of those have full electric hookups. Bring a couple sleeping bags and stay a night or two. Showers, restrooms and a trailer dump station are located in the campground. Just like the rest of the park, the campground is only open seasonally. If you and your furry friend are visiting only for the day, bring a sandwich and eat your lunch at one of the picnic tables. Just don’t forget to pack some biscuits for your pooch!
