For an outdoor adventure that's off the beaten path, make your way to the Brooks Memorial State Park! Nestled between the pine forests of the Simcoe Mountains and the barren hills of the south Yakima Valley, this 682-acre site boasts an environmental diversity that both two- and four-legged nature lovers will appreciate. So grab your gear and load up your pup—it's time for some R&R with your furry friend!
Located 15 miles north of Goldendale off Highway 97, Brooks Memorial features 9 miles of hiking trails for intrepid puppers to explore. As you and Fido amble along, you will find yourselves walking next to the Little Klickitat River and through ponderosa pine and Oregon white oak forests. Keep your eyes peeled for deer, squirrels, beaver dams, and various birds. The trails also lead to open mountain meadows, where you'll discover abundant wildflowers in the spring and a puptastic view of Mount Hood. Wherever your exploration takes you, remember to always keep your canine buddy on a leash and clean up after them. Bring your own doggie waste bags and enough water for both of you. Note that the trails are used by equestrians as well, so make sure your pooch observes proper petiquette.Â
If you'd like to extend your adventure, make yourselves at home in the park's campground, which contains standard and full hookup sites, restroom and shower facilities, and a dump station. Furry campers are welcome, but must stay leashed at all times and refrain from barking between the quiet hours of 10 PM and 6:30 AM. Other park amenities include kitchen shelters, a softball field, a playground, horseshoe pits, and an amphitheater. While the facilities are closed in the winter, many still use the area for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.Â
Enjoy the great outdoors of south-central Washington with your pupper at the Brooks Memorial State Park!Â
