Situated at the corner of Felspar and Soledad Mountain Road, Capehart Dog Park has fenced, separate sections for pooches under 25 pounds and those over 25 pounds. The Pacific Beach Town Council and Friends of the Capehart Dog Park, a group of local companies and individuals, work with the City Parks and Recreation Department to maintain the park, as well as volunteer and contribute in the maintenance and improvement of the park.
The small dog side is grassy and has been recently re-sodded, so it always looks nice. It is clean, well-maintained and has a lovely seating area where dog owners can take some respite. There are two large umbrellas for shade, a large water bowl, and fresh water on tap.
The big dog area is not as impressive. It has very little grass but has enough room for 20 dogs at a time and is always sparsely crowded. Some people have also complained of the lack of shade and because of this dogs crowd under the tables during hot afternoons, and this often leads to fights.
Poop bags are provided, and owners are expected to clean up after their furbabies to help keep the park clean for other dogs and people to enjoy. Capehart Dog Park is a lovely place for our four-legged friends to socialize, exercise, and run around until they are exhausted. If you want to drive your car, you will be happy to know that plenty of parking is provided, as well.
The people behind the Capehart Dog Park’s management has many new planned capital activities including seating, ground cover, shade, monitoring, and safety. Park users are encouraged to donate any amount for the improvement of the park. Any money given will go towards funding improvements so that our four-legged friends can enjoy their time at the park.
