Description
Grape Street Dog Park is located in San Diego, California. This designated dog facility is one of three dog parks located within the family-centric Balboa Park. Comprised of five acres of land, Grape Street Dog Park has much to offer dogs and their owners. Born out of a desire to transform a picturesque landscape from its primary landing ground for the homeless and drug dealers, a group of dedicated community volunteers began efforts to reclaim the space and transform it into one of the city's finest dog parks dedicated to off-leash play.

Though this doggy play haven is an area designated for off-leash play, it is a large grassy section which is not fenced. For this reason, dogs who lack a solid recall should remain on a leash, and owners must carry a leash with them at all times in case of emergencies. Online reviews report a small fenced area adjacent to the large playing field which seems to be reserved for small dog use only.

To provide the maximum amount of recreational opportunities for dogs, the park is equipped with an agility course and wooden logs that dogs can climb to gain a different vantage point from which to survey their surroundings. The dog area itself is encased by a thick growth of eucalyptus trees which provide plentiful shade to help keep Fido and his friends cool during their play time at the park. Benches are also scattered throughout the open space to permit owners a place to rest and relax while observing their dogs at play.

Access to this public park is free of charge. However, donations are gratefully accepted. Bathroom facilities are available on-site as is a supply of fresh drinking water to help keep Fido well-hydrated. Also on the premises are containers of poop bags for owners to use to pick up and dispose of canine waste materials. Grape Street Dog Park is also home to what is known as the Free Fido Library. Here owners can borrow as well as share books on a variety of dog topics.

Dogs are required to remain on a leash when entering and leaving the off-leash areas. Additionally, dogs should be leashed when exploring the property's many hiking trails. Though no specific rules govern the use of this public play space, it is highly recommended that all dogs be current on vaccinations and bear the appropriate required state license tags. It is important to note that in 2017 several canine visitors to the park passed away as a result of suspected poisoning. There have been no further incidents since this time. For a fun day at a great park, bring Fido and the family to Grape Street Dog Park!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
