Chapel Hill's Southern Park

The Chapel Hills Southern Dog Park is located on Dogwood Acres Drive, and it would seem natural to park on the side of that road. However, no parking is allowed there. There are spots available on adjacent streets and in the spaces provided for parking. Maps are showing where the paved lots can be found located on their website.

This dog park is surprisingly large and has many of the amenities you would find in the finest dog parks. There is even a large pavilion located inside the fenced section. This pavilion provides shade and shelter for the picnic tables found below. There is also seating positioned along the fence line of the park.

Shade is also provided by the many trees and high canopy they provide. This makes this park exceptional on hot days in comparison to less sun-sheltered parks. The park also provides water and poop bags. Garbage cans are often emptied and are located near the entrance to the fenced area. The ground here is grassy and stays well maintained.

It is green through the spring and summer months. During the fall it may turn more to dirt and could become muddy after heavy rainfall. The fenced section of this park comes out to about three acres, which makes for plenty of space to play some long ranged games like frisbee or fetch. Often tennis balls are left strewn about for you and your canine to use if you did not bring one yourself.

In the greater park area outside of this dog park, there are many other activities offered. There are some trails running through the vegetation, a playground for children, and even a midsized disc golf course. The disk golf course and nature trail welcome canines, provided they remain on their leash at all times. 

The park boasts of quite a bit of open space and enjoyable amenities for all. However, canines are not allowed on the children's playground or inside the restrooms. But overall, the Chapel Hills Southern Dog Park is a great place to come with your family as well as your four-legged furry friend.
