A forested landscape nestled in the beach town of Emerald Isle, the Emerald Isle Woods Park is the pawfect place to escape the summer heat with your pooch! You'll find this 41-acre site tucked between the suburbs on the west end of the Bogue Banks barrier island, where a puptastic view of Bogue Sound awaits.

Many visitors stop by the Emerald Isle Woods Park for its wooded trails, which span about a mile. Thanks to the tall pine trees that provide ample shade and a soft surface to walk on, the trails make for a pleasant hike even on hot days. You and Fido will encounter a few small hills with roots along the way, but nothing that sturdy footwear and a healthy doggo can't handle. Disc golf is another activity that you can enjoy with your pupper. The park features a nine-hole course, with the first tee located right next to the main parking lot.

In addition to the hiking trails, there's a boardwalk that leads to a dock on the sound, where you can rent a kayak and explore the channel with your best friend. If your pup would rather stay on land, the dock is also a furrific spot for watching birds and the sunset, so don't leave your camera at home! Other things that you should remember to bring are insect repellent, doggie waste bags, and enough water for both you and your pooch. Even though most of the park is shady and the activities are easy, it's still important to stay hydrated throughout the day. You may want to pack some snacks to munch on at the picnic pavilion, too.
