Founders Park Off-Leash Dog Area is located in the city of Alexandria, Virginia. Vehicle parking is available in a parking garage across the street from the main park or along the side of the road which runs adjacent to the off-leash area. The off-leash dog area is an integral section of the main park, Founders Park.
It is not enclosed with a perimeter fence so owners using the facility must have good voice control over their dog. The off-leash area is a large patch of grass-covered ground that is bordered with trees. The boundaries of the off-leash area are marked by posts stamped with paw prints. Dogs must be kept on a leash until they are inside the designated off-leash area. Any dog escaping from the off-leash area should be promptly recovered. Pet owners should be aware that non-compliance with this rule could land them with a large fine from the local authorities.
It is not permitted to take any food, including dog treats, into the Founders Park Off-Leash Dog Area. All dogs using the dog park must be correctly vaccinated and have a current license from the Alexandria authorities. Pet owners are obliged to keep their dog's leash in hand at all times. Any dog not behaving in a social manner should be leashed and immediately removed from the dog park. No owner is allowed to exercise more than two dogs at once. There is a dog-friendly water fountain and drinking bowls are regularly donated by the facility users.
A poop bag dispenser has been installed at the dog park, but it is recommended that pet owners carry their own supply and a few extras to donate to prevent depletion. Owners must clean up all fecal matter produced by their dog and dispose of it responsibly. The Founders Park Off-Leash Dog Area is a popular dog park which is maintained on a voluntary basis with regular monthly clean-ups.
