Garden City is an oasis of a city in western Kansas, a tight-knit community that takes pride in its zoo and enormous public swimming pool. There are many unique landmarks for visitors enjoy, and if you bring your dog, there are several off-leash opportunities, including the Garden City Dog Park.
Garden City’s small, off the beaten path dog park is a fenced off-leash area that offers you and your dog the chance to play and relax without being crowded or limited to leashed activities. There are plenty of benches underneath a shaded picnic area and small trees interspersed throughout the park.Â
You can bring food if you want to stay to enjoy a lunch with your dog. Drinking water and bathrooms are not available here, so you will need to bring water and plan on moving to one of the city’s public restrooms if nature calls. As for your dog, you will also need to bring your own poop bags as the park does not have them stocked.
Garden City Dog Park is managed by the Garden City Parks Division and is publicly available for all to use. Within the park, there are two separate dog play areas, one for smaller dogs and one for large dogs. All of the parks in Garden City are connected via trails, so you are always free to travel from park to park provided that you keep your dog on a leash while moving.Â
While there may be more populated parks in the area, the Garden City Dog Park is a relatively quiet and unoccupied park that is perfect for alone time with your dog. Should you find yourself looking for somewhere to go with your dog while visiting the area, consider starting out at the dog park and wandering across town to other parks and public areas. Your dog will bask in the Kansas sun and run around off-leash no matter where you go.
