Golden Memorial State Park

The Golden Memorial State Park encompasses a total area of 120 acres of land located in Leake County, Mississippi. If you want to access the park, you should take the turn off Mississippi Highway 492 about three miles east of Walnut Grove. 

When you get to the park you will find a serene and unspoiled environment that is in an out-of-the-way setting perfect for a vacation getaway or an afternoon picnic. The park is nestled in a valley covered by wooded hills and has Golden Lake as the park’s center of attraction. This spring-fed lake offers anglers a 15-acre playground that is stocked with bream and bass. The park also has historical attractions, including a one-room school that commemorates the post-Civil War era. While pups aren't allowed inside any park buildings, your pup will go crazy for another key attraction. The Loblolly Trail is an out and back natural path that is famous for showcasing a loblolly pine tree that is the second largest found in the entire state.

Besides these attractions, visitors to this Mississippi state park can also enjoy several amenities including concessions, a playground, a picnic area, picnic tables, two covered pavilions, fishing boat rentals, nature and hiking trails, and an office. The park is a favorite for people in the area that love to participate in recreational activities like hiking, bird watching, fishing, walking, and picnicking, so there may be busy days. 

Dogs are also allowed into Golden Memorial State Park, but like other Mississippi state parks, there are some basic rules that must be followed. Dog owners should keep their pooch on a leash that is a maximum of six feet long, and clean up after their dogs so there is nothing left behind. Be sure to take water on your trek throughout, as restrooms can only be found at the main office in the front of the park.
