Gulf State Park Dog Park is located in Gulf Shores, Alabama. This dog playground finds its home within a state park which also houses a dog-friendly campground. Visitors to this popular dog play haven have noted that there is a fully fenced enclosure where furbabies of all sizes and breeds can enjoy off-leash activity and play.Â
However, others claim there is a separate section for small dogs. The Gulf State Park Dog Park management team takes safety very seriously and requires that all owners keep a leash in their hand at all times. It is also important to note that dogs are only permitted in certain areas of the Gulf State Park, and in those areas, Fido must remain on a lead.Â
But, Fido may freely enjoy running and playing without the encumbrance of a lead in the designated off-leash portion of the Gulf State Park Dog Park. Recent 2018 improvements are planned for this public dog playground. Access to the play area is free of charge; however, there is a $15 charge per dog, per night for owners who wish to rent one of Gulf State Park's dog-friendly cabins or cottages.Â
The dog run includes some amazing agility equipment and water access. Dogs are also allowed to swim freely in Lake Shelby, an area of the beach reserved for canine use. Poop bags are not provided. Owners must bring some with them from home to assist them with properly cleaning up after their dogs which is required by law. Gulf State Park Dog Park has instituted some rules for the safety of all dogs and their owners visiting their lovely dog playground.
Up to date vaccinations are required as is a city dog license. Proof of both must be furnished to any Animal Control officer upon request. All dogs must display identification tags with current information. Children under 16 are not allowed in the designated dog area. To ensure the safety of all dogs, pinch, prong, spike, and choke collars are strictly prohibited.Â
Food is not permitted in the dog park at any time. Additionally, Gulf State Park Dog Park is home to many species of wildlife including alligators. Proper wildlife safety measures must be observed. For a day of fun at a great Alabama dog park, plan a visit to Gulf State Park Dog Park!
