The sign at the entrance of this dog park would mark it as a dog run. If measured by size alone, this park is larger then most. The easiest way to locate this park is to look for Basset Park, which is the name of the large park that houses this dog run.
There is a decent amount of space, but not really enough for a large canine to get a good run in. This dog run is large enough for fetch or frisbee. However, there are some trees with low hanging canopies that would inhibit games like these. Those same trees provide a considerable amount of shade to protect you from the suns rays.
The Hamden Dog Park is not a co-mingled dog park. There is a separate area for small canines. This can reduce the risk of injury for small canines, though they are still allowed in the main area if you feel your canine is safe amongst the larger canines at the park.
The ground here is mostly dirt. That means your canine may come home a good bit dirtier then you brought them. Rain compounds the issue and turns that dirt ground into mud. Dogs are required to have their vaccinations and proof of them provided as tags around their collars.
Dog bags are available here, and garbage cans are placed throughout the Hamden Dog Park. Water is available at this park, so be sure to bring your bowl so your canine can stay hydrated. Plenty of seating is available here in the form of picnic tables and benches placed at the base of a few trees. This park also features a small agility course.
