This 1-acre park is located near Kearny Mesa Recreation Center and offers one large area for all dogs, both small and large, so supervision is necessary. The sight is well-lighted, allowing people to use it even during the evening. There is a water station for thirsty and happy pooches, as well as a water fountain for people.Â
This spacious dog park has several large trees to provide park goers and their pets with enough shade. There are also chairs and tables all around the park where dog owners can sit, chat, and eat while their beloved pooch plays. The park has plenty of trash cans, bags, and pooper scoopers so that you clean up after your furry friend relieves himself. But they are typically by donation only, so it is advised that you bring your own. Do watch out for dog pee, which seems to be everywhere.
Parking can be quite a challenge, especially in the daytime, so if you can leave your car at home, do so. The closest parking lot is used by students attending Mesa College. This is the perfect excuse to work out and walk to the park with your dog. The park can be very muddy during rainy days so plan a pit stop at a dog wash so your pooch is clean and tidy before going home.
The city is responsible for mowing the grass, but the Friends of Kearny Mesa Dog Park Club is responsible for watering and maintaining the area. During wet weather, the club may close access to the park for safety reasons. This haven for dogs can be easily reached from the 163 freeway at Mesa College Drive. Just drive west on Mesa College Drive to Armstrong then turn left and you will find yourself at the park.
