The outdoors is the perfect place to go to if you have had enough of the demands of work and life. What better way to forget about the pending bills and deadlines than to lie down under the stars and spend the day out and about getting some sun and fresh air with your family and your pet?Â
Well, Lake Lowndes State Park offers a complete recreational facility for families, individuals, and groups to enjoy Mother Nature. This spectacular park welcomes pets, so you need not despair about having to leave Spike in your friend’s care while you go off exploring the woods.Â
However, no pets are allowed in the cabins, motels or any park buildings. You can quickly take Spike on a hike with you, but be sure that he is on-leash at all times, and that you have dog scooper bags with you so you can pick up after him and not leave waste behind. Nobody enjoys a park that has poop bombs everywhere.Â
Do not forget to bring a full water jug if you decide to go on a hike with your four-legged best friend. There are opportunities for fishing, tennis, football, softball, camping, as well as other recreational sports. Just a short drive west of the park is the Mississippi State University and the Mississippi University for Women.Â
Some of the other facilities available in the premises are trails for hiking and mountain biking, amphitheater, boat launch, picnic tables, fishing docks, comfort station, ranger station, meeting hall, first aid station, and drinking water. A day-entry fee is charged per vehicle for $4, and there is an additional charge of $0.50 per person for vehicles with over six people.Â
There is no pool or lake at the Lake Lowndes State Park, but a privately owned water slide is just two miles away, and overnight guests get a discounted rate. Ample parking is available, so you can be assured there is a safe place where you can leave your vehicle.Â
