Description

Named after the state’s only female governor, Lurleen Wallace, the wife of former Governor George C. Wallace, Lake Lurleen State Park is just nine miles Northwest of the cities of Northport and Tuscaloosa. It is also fourteen miles from the campus of the University of Alabama.

The park has more than 1,000 acres of space, more than enough room for people to unwind with their family and their beloved pets. This scenic lakeside retreat is set on the banks of a 250-acre lake. Some of the park facilities are a beach with bathhouse, boat rentals, picnic area, camp store, modern campgrounds, play area, fishing piers, pavilions, and bot-launch areas.

If you are someone keen on exploring the local sights and culture, the cities of Tuscaloosa and Northpoint both offer unique experiences which you can’t find elsewhere. Of course, a trip to the campus of the University of Alabama is a must, as well as Alabama’s Museum of Natural History.

The renowned Kentucky Art Festival attracts numerous artists and artisans. Lake Lurleen State Park hosts two major events annually, the Lake Lurleen Triathlon and the Annual Youth Fishing Tournament. The state park has ninety-one modern campsites which overlook the scenic lake.

All of the sites have electricity, and water hook-ups and thirty-five of them have sewage drain connections. The dump stations and modern bathhouse facilities offer convenience to campers. Other pursuits available are fishing, swimming, and a boat launch, all of which are included in the camping fee.

There are more than twenty-three miles of multi-use trails in the park where you can take your pooch for a walk. The trails have varying levels of difficulty, from easy to moderate, and they hug the shoreline of Lake Lurleen. They are all open to mountain bikers and hikers.

The lake, which is the main attraction of the park, is stocked with crappie, bream, largemouth bass, and catfish, so anglers of all skills are sure to have a nice catch. Spend a day with nature and your furbaby at Lake Lurleen. You can bond with each other, and your pooch will get a well-deserved day out of the house where they can exercise and play to their heart’s content.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
