Description

Adirondack Park is located in the middle of New York state. The park was one of the first of its kind to include towns and villages, including Lake Placid, which was the site of the Winter Olympics in 1980 and is still known as a winter wonderland. But the town is an all-year vacation paradise.

Camping is very popular in the Adirondacks. In the area surrounding Lake Placid, your options range from "Glamping," which is basically camping in name only, to extremely rustic "be prepared to bury your own poop" camping. Most of your options are somewhere in between these two extremes.

KOA stands for Kampgrounds of America. It's a chain of, well, campgrounds that are independently owned and operated. The KOA at Lake Placid offers a really great range of options. They have finished cabins with heaters and kitchenettes, RV hookups, rustic lean-tos, and places to set up a tent. The campground itself offers a wide range of amenities. You can eat breakfast at the lodge and buy groceries there. There are a heated swimming pool and a mini-golf course. And there's even a fenced dog park.

Now, everyone knows that dogs and camping go together like peanut butter and jelly. And, of course, dogs are welcome throughout the campground. What's great about the dog park though, which is officially called a Pet Playground, is that it's a secure area for your dog to be off-leash. There are benches and shade for people, and there are toys and fountains for your dog. It may seem strange to have a fenced dog park in the middle of a vacation area, but it's a nice place to let your dog be off-leash and play with other dogs in a controlled environment.

The KOA at Lake Placid is open year-round and has access to winter sports, such as skiing and snowshoeing, as well as summer sports. Dogs are welcome at the dog park, provided that you are actually staying at the campground.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
