Description
Looking for an ideal getaway for Fido and the family? Lake Sakakawea State Park in Pick City, North Dakota, has everything you need for a fun family adventure. Located beside Garrison Dam on the southern banks of Lake Sakakawea, this state park offers many recreational activities and water sports to suit the tastes of every member of the family. For boat aficionados, a marina is available on site which includes storage and access to a local convenience store.

Lake Sakakawea has the distinction of being one of three large-scale, man-made waterways in the United States. The park's name is derived from the young woman who traveled with the famed explorers Lewis and Clark in the early 19th century. The park itself is comprised of 1,293 acres of pristine landscape. Many species of wildlife also make their home in this rural paradise. A haven for bird watchers, Lake Sakakawea State Park is a natural habitat for 45 rare bird species and is also a favored spot of 135 different types of birds.

The endpoint of the North Country National Scenic Trail, Lake Sakakawea connects visitors to a vast network of pathways which will ultimately stretch over 4,600 miles in scope. Visitors to the park love the trails for their suitableness for multi-purposes including hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. On-site amenities include a beach suitable for swimming, salmon fishing, on-site camping facilities, a picnic area, and cabins available for rent.

Entrance to the park is $7 per vehicle; however, yearly permits can be purchased at significant savings. This park also offers many different water sports equipment for rent at extremely reasonable rates. Among the items visitors can choose from are canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, paddle boards, pontoons, and fat tire bikes. Bathrooms are available on-site for public use. Use of the showers requires coin-operation or a $5 pass.

There are many camping style accommodations available at this tranquil state park. From cabins to yurts and even tents, Lake Sakakawea State Park can deliver on an outdoor family vacation you will never forget! It is unknown if there is fresh water available to meet Fido's hydration needs or if poop bags are provided on the premises. However, it is required that owners properly pick up and dispose of all canine waste materials.

Dogs are permitted on-site without restrictions. Park officials do require that all dogs remain on a lead during their visit to the park. Though there are no official regulations governing park use, it is recommended that all dogs be current on vaccinations. In addition to this, it is wise for your dog to bear the appropriate required state license tag. For a fun-filled family vacation that Fido can enjoy too, consider a trip to Lake Sakakawea State Park!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
