Longview Dog Park at Gerhart Gardens Park is a 3-acre fenced dog park which has a separate area for smaller dogs where they can play and have fun safely, away from dogs that are twice their size. Completed in 2008, the park was made with the help of volunteers from FOLA or the Friends of Off-Leash Areas and is also maintained by them.
Among the park’s amenities is a water hose and buckets, which dog owners can use to get fresh water for their pooches; a kiddie pool where dogs can take a dip and splash water with other dogs, and benches where dog owners can sit while supervising their dogs and socialize with other dog owners. There is covered seating to protect park visitors from the sun or rain and a portable restroom for those who would like to use the toilet while in the park premises.
Open from sunrise to sundown; the park is only closed when maintenance is needed or when the weather is terrible. There is plenty to do in the park itself. There are volleyball courts, playgrounds, horseshoe pits, a boat launch, and basketball courts. Going to the park is very exciting not only for the pooches but their owners too. The park has on-site containers for dog waste and park goers are advised to bring their dog poop bags. The park also has plenty of shade are there are plenty of seating areas all throughout the area.
Dogs need to be sociable, healthy, current on all vaccinations and license, and must be under their owner’s control at all times, to enter and remain in the park. Your dog also has to be on a leash when not in appointed areas. Female dogs in heat and sick dogs are not allowed in the park. Food and drinks in glass containers are also not permitted.
