McNear Park Off-Leash Dog Area is part of the 7.66-acre park that also includes Cavanagh Pool, Cavanagh Recreation Center, and McNear Community Garden. Located between F and 11th Streets in Petaluma, the designated, enclosed off-leash area also doubles as the athletic fields. Hence there are a few hours of the day when it is used for other purposes.
The park offers plenty of green grass, an abundance of shade and a plethora of picnic tables all throughout and a playground with fun play structures, where children of different ages, from tiny tots to bigger kids, can play if they want to go to the park with you and your furbaby. There is a tennis area, multi-use fields, and a softball/baseball field.Â
The place is usually green and safe; however, there are a few spots where a cunning escape artist could slip out and run away, so this serves as a warning to pet parents to supervise their canines. There is a restroom on the premises, so you need not worry should you need to use the toilet while in the park.Â
One of Petaluma’s most popular parks which is often frequented by locals, the dog area is not fenced so pet parents must always be in control of their dogs. Dogs in heat, as well as dogs below four months old, are not allowed. No dog poop bags are available so pet parents must bring some and help ensure that the park is clean so that other and pets might enjoy it too.Â
The McNear Park Off-Leash Dog Area provides drinking fountains to help ensure that neither pet parents, nor their furbabies are thirsty after a day of fun and exercise. If you fancy having a picnic with the family, there are horseshoe pits and large BBQ pits which you can rent. Spike can enjoy picnics too, but he has to be on a leash for everyone’s safety.
