The Morley Field Dog Park is located next to the Morley Field Sports Complex which is part of the Balboa Park in San Diego, California. There is a large parking lot right next to the dog park. It is an area which has been designated by the San Diego authorities specifically for the off-leash exercising of dogs. It is an open expanse of ground which has not been enclosed with any kind of fencing.
Pet owners must keep their dogs leashed until in the off-leash area. It is not clearly signed so caution should be exercised when letting dogs loose. All owners must have their dog under good voice control to use the facility as it is easy for a dog to escape into the parking lot.Â
The off-leash area is mostly surfaced with dirt with a few patches of grass here and there. It is hilly in places. There are plenty of trees throughout which give good shade on sunny days. The dog park can be very dusty in hot weather and becomes muddy after heavy rainfall.
This dog park does not have a specific small dog area. There are a few pieces of agility equipment and water fountains have also been installed. These are not dog-friendly and it is recommended owners take a drinking bowl for their dog particularly in hot weather.Â
There are containers for the disposal of poop bags, but no on-site bag dispenser. Pet owners are fully responsible for providing their own supply of poop bags and are obliged by law to clean up after their dog. The Waggin’ Tails Dog Park is a clean park and they need your help to keep it that way.
Pet owners are restricted to exercising no more than three dogs at any one time. All dogs using the facility must be licensed with the local authorities and have their vaccinations up to date. Owners must keep their pet's leash in hand when in the off leash area and keep their dog in constant eye contact.
