Description

Olmstead Place State Park is located near Ellensburg and it is any history lover's dream place. Here's what you should know about it before visiting: The 221-acre day-use park is an old pioneer farm. The site was owned by the Olmstead family, who first arrived here in 1875. During the time they lived here, the Olmsteads raised grain and beef cattle and in 1892 they began to produce butter for the Seattle market.

After owning the farm for approximately 100 years, they decided to donate it to Washington State Parks, in 1968. Today, Olmstead Place State Park showcases the farming history. On the site, you can still see the old farming equipment and sheds, or take a walk through the astonishing heritage gardens. The original log cabin built in 1875 is still standing, as it is one of the main attraction points, as well as other constructions in the park.

Visiting Olmstead Place State Park promises to offer an enjoyable outdoor experience, filled with many lessons about the past. It's a great recreational place for the entire family. There are 17 unsheltered picnic tables throughout the park, perfect for having a delicious meal after you visit the historical area. As a pet-friendly place, feel free to bring Fido for a well-deserved play time outdoors. However, the rules state that you should always keep your pet on a leash that doesn't exceed eight feet.

Waste bags are not available Olmstead Place State Park, so make sure you have at least one in your pocket or in your backpack. Maintaining the park's cleanliness is every dog owner's duty. With that in mind, if you're looking to spend a relaxing day and learn some interesting things about the old day farming, Olmstead Place State Park is the place to visit.
