The forest encompasses 11 towns in totality and covers varied terrain.

Dogs are permitted to join their families on the premises, but in accordance with Connecticut state law, they must remain leashed. Drinking water is not provided nor is there a specific area reserved for dog play. There are pit toilets available on the property for public use, but it appears that there is no running water access.

Owners should bring bottled water, a dog dish, and poop bags with them to the park. The Connecticut dog by-laws place all responsibility for pet waste removal on each owner. Pattaconk Reservoir Area is a private facility. Entrance to the premises is free of charge on weekdays, but during the week, there is a cost of $9 for area residents and $15 for those residing elsewhere.

The Pattaconk Reservoir Area is home to areas designated for youth camping, but it is unknown if family camping is available on the grounds or if a campsite rental fee is required for teens enjoying the facilities. Pattaconk Reservoir Area is home to many interesting recreational activities for families to enjoy.

Among the most popular attractions are cross-country skiing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, mountain biking, snowmobiling, and swimming. Many different varieties of birds claim this park as their own, providing nature lovers with many occasions to view a spectacular array of fowl in their natural habitat.

Pattaconk Reservoir Area supports and enforces all Connecticut legislation. Owners must ensure that their dogs are current on all pertinent vaccinations.
