This Penn Hills Dog Park is closed for the months of January and February every year. The grass is typically abundant and quite green through the summer months as this location is fairly removed from the city and does not get as much traffic.
Water is not available on-site and it is recommended that you bring your own. Benches are available, some with trees overhead to provide shade. It is removed from the road and there are not normally bikers nearby, leaving it a pleasant place to bring canines that would otherwise bark a lot.
Bags are available on-site as well as garbage bins to dispose of the waste. The park is maintained by the county and stays relatively nice year around. There is no lighting at this location, and as it is fairly removed, many do not recommend coming here or staying here past the hours of sunset.
There is enough room to play around and run a bit with the other dogs. Outside the fenced area, there are also plenty of trails and paths to get a good exercise in with your canine. On those trails, or anytime outside of the fenced area your canine is required to remain on-leash.
The path to access the park is narrow and requires you to walk relatively close to other canines, so a well trained larger dog is important as small dogs will pass by closely. Overall, this small part is a well-hidden treasure near the city!
