The Percy Priest Dog Park, also known as the Stones River Dog Park, is a pawsome place to bring your pup when you're looking for a dog park in a unique setting, or want to combine a long on-leash walk with off-leash fun. The dog park was added to the Percy Priest Dam site as part of a larger project to create a trailhead for the Stones River Greenway. The combined trailhead and dog park gives visitors to either site ample parking and access to clean human bathrooms and seasonal concessions, including boat rentals.
The Percy Priest Dam is a mechanical marvel that adds a dramatic backdrop to the dog park. It rises 130 feet above the park and sometimes unleashes massive torrents of water as part of its functions to control flooding and generate hydroelectric power. The dog park runs right up to the shore of the churning pool underneath it, where you're likely to see people wading out into the water and fishing.
Pooches who want to cool off can more safely use the hoses and kiddie pools provided by the park in warmer months. The doggie water fountain, pools, and hoses are located in a central circle of concrete, which is surrounded by gravel to prevent the water features from making the ground around them muddy. Beyond the gravel, a grassy lawn covers the rest of the large 2.5-acre park, providing ample room for dogs of all sizes to run and get lots of exercise. There are also several benches for human comfort. Bring clean up bags and keep this dog park puptastic!
If you and your dog want to explore further, the Stones River Greenway, a ten-mile paved multi-use trail, starts right outside of the dog park. Clip on the leash and set out under the I-40 underpass to begin your journey along the river.
The Percy Priest Dog Park is a great place to bring your pup for a romp whether you spend any time on the trail. Make sure you check out this unique dog park if you live in or are visiting Nashville!
