For a pleasant nature outing in southwest Washington, check out the Rainbow Falls State Park with your four-legged friend! Located 16 miles west of Chehalis, this 129-acre park comprises a rare old-growth forest on the Chehalis River, making it a must-visit destination for any outdoor enthusiast!
If your pupper is always eager to go on their daily walks, they'll have a blast exploring the loamy trails at Rainbow Falls. Spanning a total of 3 miles, the trail network covers the southern half of the park and can easily be completed by healthy doggos. Follow the paths as they weave through Douglas fir, western red cedar, and western hemlock. Many of the trails are mixed-use, so expect to share them with bikers and horseback riders. You and Fido will also find yourselves strolling along the water, eventually arriving at the small, rainbow-crowned cascade for which the park is named. There is no designated swim area at Rainbow Falls, but feel free to cool off in the river with your pooch.
Besides the trails and forest, you'll only find a picnic area in the park's southern portion. For modern amenities such as restrooms and kitchen shelters, head north to the campground. This part of the park also houses a small fuchsia garden, where you and Fido can view more than 40 varieties. If you plan to spend more than a day at Rainbow Falls, the state park offers several standard, utility, and primitive campsites. A dump station and token-operated showers are available to keep campers clean and smelling fresh.
Wherever you go in the park, make sure your furry buddy stays on an 8-foot leash at all times and that you clean up after them immediately. Tote along your own water to share with your thirsty pup, and clean-up bags. Note that you will need a Discover Pass to access the park's day-use facilities.
Enjoy some outdoor quality time with Fido at the Rainbow Falls State Park!
