Description

Ross Lake National Recreation Area is situated in northwestern Washington, adjacent to North Cascades National Park and just south of the Canada–US border. The park spreads across 117,575 acres of land that lies in Whatcom County and Skagit County in the state of Washington. The national recreation area is governed by the National Park Service an was established on October 2, 1968.

To access the Ross Lake National Recreation Area, visitors can use several routes. For example, visitors can use the I-5 at Burlington which is just west of the mountains, and Twisp, on the east. You should then find and follow the WA 20 (better known as the North Cascades Scenic Highway) and go straight to the park.

When you get to the Ross Lake National Recreation Area, you will find a lot of attractive things to explore. For example, the park includes three reservoirs including Ross Lake (12,000 acres), Diablo Lake (910 acres), and Gorge Lake (210-acres). These reservoirs provide a water gateway to other remote areas in the region.

Other features that you will undoubtedly be attracted to are the mountains and the many outdoor recreational opportunities along the Skagit River which lies right between the north and south units of North Cascades National Park. Some of the recreational activities that visitors can enjoy include horseback riding, hiking, cross-country skiing, mountain climbing, camping, boating, hunting, fishing, guided tours, and snowshoeing.

Visitors to the Ross Lake National Recreation Area will find that there are a lot of conveniences in the park to satisfy their taste including a picnic area, restrooms, campgrounds, cabin rental, restaurant with snacks, boat ramp, self-guided tours, groceries, and a boat rental.

Dogs are definitely allowed into Ross Lake National Recreation Area albeit with some restrictions. Mainly, dog owners are expected to maintain immediate control of their pooch at all times, and they are also expected to keep their dogs well-behaved and out of restricted areas of the Ross Lake National Recreation Area.
