Northeast of Pittsburgh, Simon B. Elliott State Park in Pennsylvania has a wide variety of things to do. The beautiful state park is a popular destination for trout fishing. There are three miles of trails at Simon B. Elliott State Park. The Quehanna Trail System has more than 75 miles of trails for hiking and backpacking, which is accessible via the Central Pennsylvania Lumber Company Trail. 

If you’re looking for a space to picnic, Simon B. Elliott State Park has it. There’s plenty of tables, parking, restrooms, and even three reservable pavilions. Simon B. Elliott State Park has a number of small streams throughout the area. The streams offer a great, uncrowded shot at catching fresh trout. Be sure to follow all applicable Pennsylvania laws and regulations. 

Hunting is also permitted during established seasons. Two hundred thirty-four acres are open for hunting, trapping, and even dog training. Game found in the park includes deer, turkey, rabbit, grouse, and squirrel. Make sure you have any applicable game permits and follow all Pennsylvania Game Commission rules and regulations. During winter months, the park is open for cross-country skiing. 

There are four miles of ungroomed roads and trails that range from easy to moderate. Snowmobiling is permitted on designated roads in Moshannon State Forest. For visitors interested in spending a night or a few inside the park, the Simon B. Elliott State Park has a 25-site camping area with modern bathrooms. There are no showers. Pets are permitted in all sites. 

The campground is open between Memorial Day and late October. Dogs are allowed in the campground and on trails, as long as they’re leashed or crated at all times and are well-behaved. Be polite to other guests and clean up pet waste. The Simon B. Elliott State Park is open every day of the year, from sunrise to sunset.
