Stransky Dog Run, Lincoln, NE
Featuring separate large and small dog areas and lots of open space to run and roam, this fully fenced dog run also boasts a seasonal water fountain for hydrating thirsty pups and their dog parents, as well as a hose for a cool off or post-play rinsing. The park is dotted with shade trees and benches for dog parents’ comfort while they watch their doggos cavort, and double gates ensure the pooches’ safety when entering and exiting. If shelter is needed for rain or the hot sun of summer, a small gazebo stands ready.
Just outside the entrance is a small building containing human restrooms. The run doesn’t provide waste bags for cleaning up after your dog, so be sure to bring some with you and leave nothing behind. Trash containers are available to discard the used bags.
Beal Slough stream snakes through Stransky Dog Run and provides a place for a refreshing splash and some “rock-tripping” for sure-footed canines. Note that the dog run is adjacent to railroad tracks and sensitive dogs may react to the noise. Ample free parking can be found near the gate, and within the fenced area is a paved walking path for strolling, training, or cooling down after playing.
The city asks that pup parents fill the holes their dogs dig, replace any loose turf, and keep their fur babies leashed until they enter the double-gated area. In addition, human food inside the run is a no-no, but dog treats are allowed. Be sure your pup has a license and proof of a current rabies vaccination before visiting. And while the larger Peterson Park is open from 5 AM to 11 PM, the city only allows dogs in their dog parks during daylight hours.Â
