If your furry friend loves the outdoors, then treat them to a day at Pawnee State Recreation Area. This 2,500 acre slice of nature will delight their senses and provide them with a chance to commune with Mother Nature.
The 740 acre Pawnee Lake is at the center of this pawsome
park. With so much water, it’s no wonder boating and fishing are some of the
park’s most pupular activities. Bring your rod and reel and try your luck at
catching some bass, walleye, catfish, or bluegill. All types of boats are
welcome on the lake, and there are two docks and three launches available. If
your pooch heads out on the water, make sure you have a doggy life jacket on
hand.
If your pup prefers to stay on dry land, Pawnee Lake State Recreation Area boasts six miles of trails. Pack some snacks,
plenty of water, and clean up bags and venture down one of the trails. Keep in
mind the trails are multi-use, so expect to see some mountain bikers and
equestrians. Help your pal yield as necessary. Â
Want to stay a night or two? Settle in at the campground.
Here you’ll find 200 campsites with water, showers, and bathrooms. Some are
also equipped with electrical hookups. If you are just visiting for the day,
pack a lunch or have a barbecue on oneÂ
of the grills in the day use area.
Please note all park visitors must have a Nebraska State
Park Permit. Nebraska residents can purchase an annual permit for $30.00 or a
day permit for $6.00. Non-residents can buy an annual permit for $45.00 or a
day permit for $8.00. Go ahead and get the annual permit, your pup will thank
you!
Your furry buddy will agree, a day at Pawnee State
Recreation Area is time well spent!
