Portland is known for its coffee houses, local brews, and unique music scene, but it’s also home to more than 30 off-leash dog parks! Located near the Willamette River, The Fields city park was carved out of unused railyards and warehouses and is home to the 8,000 square foot The Fields Off-Leash Dog Park, a welcome addition to Portland’s Pearl District. This pup playground is especially pupular in the morning and early evening.
Paid street parking provides plenty of room for vehicles, but many users walk over from the local condos and apartments. Access to the fully fenced playground is through a safe, double security gate. After entering the gate, leashes are removed and should be kept in hand by pet parents at all times.
Surrounded by trees and shrubs, the crushed granite surface is large enough for active pups to run and play. With large and small/shy dog areas, all dogs can play safely. Benches for watchful parents are available in both, and a water fountain sits in the large dog area. Each section also has a trash receptacle, but waste bags are not provided, so remember to bring some along and always pick up after your pup.Â
Basic dog park rules apply, including that dogs must wear visible rabies and license tags. Dog registration is available from Mutnomah County Animal Services, so be sure to get your dog registered before visiting. To prevent scuffles, food isn’t permitted. Always keep the leash on when entering and exiting the dog park, and anywhere outside the dog area. On active days, the gravel can create some dust, so it may be a good idea to have a towel on hand to wipe off your pup before heading home.Â
Residents in the Pearl District and others appreciate this little park with its pleasant minimalist design, and the pups love it too! Check out the The Fields Off-Leash Dog Park today with your canine pal!
