Located near Olympia, this day use park offers a ton to keep you and your furry companion occupied. For the hikers, over three miles of hiking trails traverse the entire forested area of the park, getting you right in the middle of nature. With access points right off of 61st Ave NE, you can meander a large loop around the whole park, or take a shorter path. Over thirty sheltered and unsheltered picnic areas, and two kitchen shelters with electricity, offer many places to relax and enjoy an outdoor meal or snack. Restrooms can be found at two of the sheltered areas.Â
Then there's the beach! Located in Puget Sound in the small cove of Nisqually Reach, this hidden beach area backed by forest is a pawfect place to get out the wiggles. Dogs can romp in the sand and splash in the water to their heart's content, but must remain leashed. With calm waters good for little humans and pups, this beach is a good spot for those new to the waves, or just the shy doggos. Fishing, clamming and crabbing are pupular here. And for the truly adventurous, there is an artificial reef for scuba divers.Â
You and your pup are going to love the adventure to be had at this park, but first, be sure your dog is fully vaccinated, licensed and tagged. Bring all the needed essentials for a puptastic day out, including water to share with your thirsty pup, and clean-up bags. Always stoop and scoop and keep this furbulous park dog-friendly. Keep your pup on a leash no longer than six feet at all times, even in the water.
Access to the park is with a Discover Pass which runs $10 for a day's use. An annual pass can be purchased for $30, and is good for all Washington State Parks.
