Walnut Creek Wetland Park is a beautiful creekside park filled with attractions you and your pup will both love! The 58-acre park is home to lots of trails to explore and many different interactive exhibits. Pups are welcome to join you in this park on leashes that are six feet or shorter.
If you’d like to go for a long walk with your pup, the Walnut Creek Trail runs right through Walnut Creek Wetland Park. This paved trail is 15.6 miles in total, and it goes across southern Raleigh. The portion of the trail that goes through Walnut Creek Wetland Park passes by a swamp, a marsh that’s filled with wildlife, and beautiful Boneyard Lake.
The park is also home to the trailhead for the Little Rock Creek Trail. This 1.6-mile trail takes you from Walnut Creek Wetland Park to Downtown Raleigh. Along the way, you’ll get great views of Little Rock Creek. You may also get to see some of the wildlife that lives in and around the park, including red-shouldered hawks, hummingbirds, deer, foxes, groundhogs, beavers, and much more.
If you’d like to go on a short walk with your pup, try the Ross Andrews Trail. This scenic trail is covered in mulch, and it goes by Little Rock Creek. There are unique frog pipes along this trail that attract a wide variety of frogs, salamanders, and invertebrates.
If your dog is thirsty after your hike, there’s a pet water bowl available right outside the Walnut Creek Wetland Center. There are also shaded picnic tables here where you can grab a bite to eat with your pup.
