Willamette Park Off Leash Dog Area - Portland

A few miles south of Portland, Oregon, lies the riverside community of Corvallis. In the town of Corvallis, you will find Willamette Park, which is a sprawling natural preserve and family park. This lovely park features an off-leash dog play area among other recreational activities. It is the largest park in Corvallis, encompassing approximately 27 acres in total.

The off-leash dog play area is located west of SW Beaver Street, occupying the northernmost area of the park by the entrance. The space is an open field circled by trees and shady benches, without a fence to enclose the play area. The rest of the park, which features several sports fields, trails, and a canoe dock, is open to dogs as well, but they will need to be on-leash should you decide to wander away from the off-leash area. 

The park has plenty of restrooms, picnic sites, and a playground for children. However, you will need to pack in your own water, as well as poop bags to pick up after your dog. The park is popular among residents and locals, and they will encourage you to help keep the park clean! Willamette Park is maintained by the City of Portland and is one of the area’s most popular parks. 

Tons of wildlife also enjoy the park, including several species of protected birds and fish. Your dog must be well-behaved, and you will want to be sure that he will listen even when there are other animals around. While the on-leash rules are lax in most areas of the park, posted rules mandate that dogs be on-leash near the soccer fields, main picnic shelter, and children’s playground. 

The park runs alongside the Willamette River, the park’s namesake, and at any given time you will find kayakers, canoers, and dogs doing the doggy paddle. Visit Willamette Park if you find yourself in the area, or if you are seeking a break from the rush of Downtown Portland.
