Bernal Heights Park is a hidden paradise with puptacular views of San Francisco and the Bay Area. The mile-long loop here leads to the summit of a hill where you can see the Golden Gate Bridge, San Bruno Mountain, the downtown skyline, and more. One of the furrific features of this area is that you can let Fido run off-leash to get their exercise.
For the loop hike, park along the street at the spur off Folsom Street and Bernal Heights Boulevard. Pick up the dirt path here and head up the hill. There are multiple tracks that lead to the crest. Watch for red tail hawks and other wildlife that inhabit this grassy open space. In springtime, the area will be lush and green with colorful wildflowers. Although the grass turns brown through summer and fall, the trip is still worthwhile. You and your furry pal will get a workout, and you'll be amazed by the breathtaking views.Â
The park is an off-leash area for dogs, but you still need to control them with voice commands. Carry sacks to collect any waste. There aren't any restrooms or water sources here. Bring refreshments with you when you come. On the way, there are benches and picnic tables where you can take a break with your canine companion. When you head back down from the peak, check out the Bernal Hills Labyrinth located in the park's southwest corner.Â
In addition to sweeping views of the area, this delightful urban paradise offers pawlenty of fun for you and your pooch. As you climb the trail, your four-footed pal can explore the fields. There are spots for you to share a picnic along the way. Enjoy viewing the wildlife creatures that live in the grassy hills. Before heading home, try to navigate the mysterious labyrinth and stop by the painted rock to see its latest design.
