Description

If you’d like to go on a walk through a pawsitively amazing historic area with your dog, the Biltmore Campus Trail is perfect for you! This puptastic trail is a mile long, and dogs are welcome to join you on-leash.

The trail begins at the Cradle of Forestry in America Heritage Site. Park at the site’s Forest Discovery Center, and then head out onto the trail. The paved loop trail goes through a lovely forest that’s filled with wildflowers, and it passes eight buildings from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

One of the first buildings you’ll pass is the wooden Biltmore Forest School. This one-room schoolhouse was built in 1898, and it was the first school in the United States that specialized in the study of the forestry. As you walk farther along the trail, you’ll pass a commissary that was also used as a community center, as well as a ranger’s cabin that was built in 1882 and a historic lodge. There are signs all along the trail that provide more information about the history of these buildings. Plus, you’ll also see signs that discuss the flora and fauna in the forest.

If you’d like to extend your hike after you finish the Biltmore Campus Trail, there are a couple of other pawesome trails at the Cradle of Forestry in America Heritage Site. This includes the 1.3-mile Forest Festival Trail, which takes you past a train from 1913, an ozone garden, and an antique portable sawmill. There’s also the 1.3-mile Forest Discovery Trail, which goes through a picturesque part of the forest and passes small, scenic waterfalls.

The Biltmore Campus Trail is a beautiful trail that provides tons of interesting information about the history of forestry. Bring some doggy bags so you can clean up after your pup during your walk, and enjoy trekking through this historic trail!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.

Cautions & Considerations

There’s no water available on the trail, so it’s a good idea to bring a bottle or two with you on your hike. Also, be on the lookout for poison ivy as you walk along the trail.
