Description

Blevins Gap is a nature preserve that rests among the scenic mountains and hills of Huntsville, Alabama’s third largest city. The preserve spans nearly 1,000 acres, and it encompasses rocky Appalachian features as well as scenic woodlands. Its breathtaking setting draws in countless visitors every year from near and far, and you won’t want to miss the great opportunity to explore it if you are anywhere near the area. You and your dog can take advantage of the preserve’s extensive trail system that runs over ten miles all around the grounds!

The preserve’s free parking lot is located just off of Cecil Ashburn Drive; you will notice a small scenic brook runs right along the parking lot. Also note that the only restrooms at the preserve are located at this parking lot, and they are portable restrooms. There is also a small information kiosk in the parking lot.

From this starting point, you have the option of taking the Stevenson Trail or the Fanning Trail. The Stevenson Trail is a small loop that can be walked in a matter of minutes; The Fanning Trail is more extensive, and it leads to the Blevins Gap Trailhead two miles south. From this trailhead, you can take the Scout Trail to the east — out and back, it runs about half a mile. You can also continue heading south along the Sugar Tree Trail, Varnedoe Trail, or Bill and Marion Certain Trail, the last option being the most extensive at about two miles. All three trails offer scenic views of the beautiful Alabama woodlands that this preserve is known for!

When you are visiting Blevins Gap, be sure to follow the preserve’s rules regarding four-legged friends. Dogs must be kept on-leash at all times, and you will need to bring your own clean-up bags as well.

Blevins Gap Nature Preserve is one of Alabama’s finest locations for an outdoor adventure, and you and your pooch will have a furrific time exploring its great trail system!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
