Description
Go hiking through a range of habitats when you visit the Wehle Forever Wild Trail System. This 11.5-mile set of loops wanders through a grassland savannah, pine hills, bottomland forest, and past a few lakes. You'll be able to watch for about 170 species of bird as you hike in the property. There are restrooms in the campground area, which is open on a limited basis. In spring and summer, the area boasts a kaleidoscope of color thanks to the wildflowers. You can also come in fall to enjoy the changing leaf colors.

Access the day-use trails from a parking area on Pleasant Hill Road about four miles north of the nature center. The pathway is mostly grassy. You'll start on a few short loops that head through stands of upland pine. This section of the property has abundant wildlife that includes warblers, pine siskin, bobwhite, and other birds. The shorter trails connect to the Pines Trail. The route forms a 5.7-mile loop around the property. Tour the area as you hike on forest roads and through pine and grass savannah. On the back side of the land, you'll walk along Blue Heron and Alligator Lakes. Enjoy scenic views of the water.

This preserve is open to your four-footed companion as long as you keep the leash on them. Help keep the area pristine by bringing bags with you to remove any waste. You'll also want to carry water for yourself and your pooch.

The Wehle Forever Wild Trail System offers a pawtastic set of hiking paths for you and your special pal to explore together. This pathway has a gentle slope that provides a pleasant stroll in nature. Enjoy the variety of ecosystems in the managed preserve. Known as a fantastic place for bird watching, this property is home to waterfowl, screech owls, red-headed woodpeckers, flycatchers, and more.
