If you and your pooch are looking for a pretty place to stretch all six of your legs in Philadelphia, MS, you’d be barking mad not to check out the Burnside Park Nature Trail! This two-mile walk is a furrific way for you two to spend part of a morning or afternoon. There’s plenty of free parking at Burnside Lake Waterpark. The trail is pretty pawpular with local pups and their people, so those seeking solitude might want to search elsewhere, but there’s a good chance that Fido can make some new friends! The park itself makes for a fabulous day out for all the family -- the suspension bridge is beautiful, and non-furry family members might appreciate the well-maintained playground. There are also plenty of places to picnic!
Burnside Park, also known as Burnside Lake Waterpark, is a 115-acre urban green space located about five miles from the city of Philadelphia, clustered around a gorgeous oxbow lake. Keen anglers might want to bring a fishing pole -- the lake is well-stocked, and the view from the fishing pier is wonderful. The trail itself runs under mature deciduous trees, snaking along the lake at some points.
As an urban nature trail in a county park, Burnside Nature Trail is about as accessible as a trail can get without having a fully paved surface. Be careful after it rains, though -- those fallen leaves can be slippery! There aren’t any real inclines to be concerned about, so this route can be a fun walk for everyone from the most athletic animals to older furry friends who can’t quite move as they used to. While there aren’t any waste bag dispensers on the way, there are plenty of trash cans! The park also has restrooms for humans, though capacity is limited. Be sure to bring water with you, and have a pawesome walk!
